The Spark STEM Scholars SHSAT course is divided into 2 sections:
SHSAT English: SHSAT English prepares students for the reading and writing sections of the SHSAT, focusing on grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary in context, and reading comprehension to strengthen critical analysis skills and improve test-taking strategies.
SHSAT Math: SHSAT Math prepares students for the math section of the SHSAT, focusing on problem-solving skills, algebra, geometry, and data analysis to enhance mathematical reasoning and test-taking strategies.
At the end of the course, students should be prepared with new test-taking strategies and knowledge to help them excel on the SHSAT.
Note that most, if not all, mentors are students of Specialized High Schools who have taken the exam.
SHSAT stands for Specialized High Schools Admissions Test. Administered by the Department of Education, the SHSAT is a standardized test offered to New York City's 8th and 9th grade residents seeking admission to NYC's Specialized High Schools. These public high schools have a separate admission process from the general high school admission application and are highly selective. For better or worse, admission to these elite high schools is based solely on the SHSAT score, which means being properly prepared for the exam is crucial.
